Hand wheels must not be mounted on the drive shaft when not operating the screw jack. Separate storage is required! Use of Screw Jacks Fitted With Emergency Stop Disc: To prevent over travel of the lead screw, a stop disc or nut can be fitted to a screw jack that is hand operated. It should not be used as a full power stop.
Hand Wheel Screw Jack is very popular for all kinds of applications. So when to use it?
1. In case of power failure, screw jacks can be moved manually via a handwheel. To do this, one input shaft shall be available on the screw jack for the connection of the handwheel. If a brake motor is used, the brake shall be un-clamped firstly, so to allow for movement.
2. Light load, low duty cycle, low-speed application.
3. Intermittent positioning applications
Screw jack is commonly seen as one simple machine. It is also known as worm gear screw jack or worm screw jack. It is a mechanical motion control device used for lifting heavy weight objects, push or pull an object. The key components of screw jacks are trapezoidal lifting screw, worm screw, worm gear and gear housing. Worm screw is rotated manually (manual screw jack) or by a motor (electric screw jack).
A hand wheel is a convenient solution for manually operating a jack when using machine screw jacks in intermittent positioning applications. Hand wheels are available in a range of diameters from 5 to 16 inches and can be adapted for use on jacks up to the 20 tons capacity model. NOTE: Hand wheels do not include a brake and therefore are not for use with ball screw jacks. When using hand wheels with a jack that can back drive (12:1 and lower) an additional locking mechanism may be required to prevent "creep".
